My name is Devyn Curley and I am a junior here at CSU. I originally come from Albuquerque, New Mexico and lived there for most of my life. As far as how I would describe myself as an educator goes, I would say I like to follow the teachings of a particular quote: “A good teacher is like a candle– it consumes itself to light the way for others.” (Mustafa Kemal Ataturk) As we talked about in class earlier today, as teachers in the U.S. we need to be prepared for the lack of respect or paycheck that comes with being an educator. We may never get to hear that “thank you,” or be fully appreciated by students, or get that admiration from parents. Teaching is a self-rewarding career. Everything that goes into it must be selfless, and not expectant of gratitude. It may not be a fair outlook on it, but who ever said life was fair?
