So, over the break I began to think about the holiday season and what it really means to me. On Facebook you see people writing what they are thankful for in the month of November. But I also saw a post that posed the question, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could just BE thankful instead of having to constantly name THINGS we are thankful for? May we truly learn to simply BE thankful!!” This post really got me thinking.. How do we simply “BE” thankful? How do express that thankfulness? So when someone asks you what you are thankful for how do you respond? Is your family a “thing” that you are thankful for or do they fit in the category of “BEing” thankful?

Holidays are often a happy time for people, but they are also time of extreme stress. Where do we find our “thankful” when we are so stressed about how to pay for dinner and gifts and booze and cookies? Shouldn’t we be thankful that we have the opportunity to even consider those things a “stress” in our lives? What about the people who don’t know where their next meal will come from or where they will sleep next?

So my being thankful post just turned into a rant, sorry. I guess I am just frustrated with the holidays. I am so stressed about what gifts to buy and how to save money to buy said gifts and it all seems so silly to me. Why can’t we just be thankful that we have people in our lives that love us just as much as we love them? Why gifts? Why money? Why can’t it be more simple?
